Mumbais showcase airport faces Monsoon Mayhem

Date:

Mumbai: Even as the country faces a drought situation, in Mumbai it is the monsoon mayhem that has brought havoc to the city. Not just the city roads, waterlogging was seen at Mumbai’s newly constructed international airport. Water entered the baggage screening area of the airport on Friday morning. Air India said had it rained more, passengers’ baggage could have been damaged.

Water-logging has been reported in several parts of the city after two days of incessant rainfall. The city saw some temporary respite from the incessant rains on Friday evening and Saturday morning. According to the Met department, the city has recorded only 33 mm of rainfall overnight in the city and about 40 mm in the suburbs. However, the Met department has predicted frequent heavy showers for later on Saturday.

But the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation disaster management team has been saying that the situation is under control.

It’s almost become a scripted monsoon for Mumbaikars given the fact that little has been done by the civic body, clearly evident by waterlogged roads.
