Massa disappointed at standard of stewards

Date:

Felipe Massa on Thursday expressed his disappointment with the current standard of stewarding in Formula One after rookie Kevin Magnussen was cleared of all blame in their collision at the German Grand Prix last weekend.

After the collision at the opening corner on lap one, Brazilian Massa squarely blamed Dane Magnussen of McLaren and warned other inexperienced drivers to be less reckless.

But speaking after learning Magnussen was regarded as blameless, ahead of this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, he said: “So you see there is a lot to improve — even in the FIA. If the stewards are thinking like that, I don’t know who they are taking to be stewards to be honest.”

Asked if he wanted to speak to the sport’s ruling body, the International Motoring Federation (FIA), about their stewards, he said: “Yeah.”

But he then qualified his position.

“I don’t think we need to go to the past and live in the past,” he said.

“We need to live the future and we need to live the present. We need to concentrate to do a good job here. That’s all I care about.

“To be honest, what is in the past will not change so we just need to concentrate now…. And now, I understand, that you need to drive not only for yourself, but you need to think about what the others will do as well.”
