Film on India set to make debut in China

Beijing: The first ever Chinese film shot in India with Sino-Indian theme is all set to make a debut in China soon.

The film, ‘My amazing trip to India’, which graphically portrays the travails faced by a Chinese traveller in India will be released here in the next few months, Zhang Jian Ya, the Director of the film told the media on the sidelines of the Indian film festival.

According to Zhang and the producer Zhang Jiajun, who shelled out $2 lakh for shooting the film in India, this is the first ever Chinese film ever shot in India or made with an Indian theme.

Most of the shooting of the film which involved four Indian actors, including the heroine Ridhima was done in Rajasthan.

Zhang Jian Ya along with young Chinese director Fan Lixin have been designated as promotional Ambassadors to the Indian Film Festival in which India showcased ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. The other movies are – ‘Jodha Akbar’, ‘Tare Zameen Par’, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, ‘Oh My God’, and ‘Queen’ and Malayalam film ‘Manjadikuru’.

Underlining the importance of films to bring people of the two countries together, Indian Ambassador to China, Ashok K Kantha spoke about how the song Awarahoo was on the lips of generations of Chinese and need for the new generation of films to bring that kind of connectivity.

Nirupama Kotru, Director, (Films), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the two countries are close to reach an agreement on co-production of films which could be finalised during the next month’s visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India.

She said India is holding talks with the Chinese government to permit more Indian films to be shown in China. China currently permits only 35 foreign films annually to be shown in Chinese theatres and Indian films hardly finds place as most of it is garnered by the Hollywood hits
