Austrian TT champion to tackle hour record

Date:

Austrian timetrial champion Matthias Brandle will tackle the world hour record on Thursday in a bid to dethrone German Jens Voigt.

Veteran Voigt, 43, ended his long career last month by breaking the nine-year-old record and setting a new mark of 51.115km.

Now Brandle, 24, wants to beat other timetrial specialists, such as Briton Bradley Wiggins who has stated his intention to tackle the feat next year, to the achievement by bettering Voigt’s mark.

Like Voigt, the three-time Austrian timetrial champion will attempt to beat the record in Switzerland, although at the Aigle velodrome rather than the Granges one where the German rode.
