J&K DIGs son flaunts misuse of power

Srinagar: In an embarrassment for a top policeman in Jammu and Kashmir, photographs showing abuse of power by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in Jammu have gone viral.

The photographs posted by the DIG’s son on social media – Instagram, shows Shakeel Beig misusing his powers.

In one of the pictures, Tony Beig, who goes by the name Tonybeig on Instagram, shows his police officer father, a recipient of the Indian President’s medal for distinguished services, sitting comfortably on a sofa in a well decorated room, while a man sits on the floor, helping him put on his shoes.

The caption says, “Real king My Dad!! Last time he put his shoes himself was almost 15 years ago #BossLife #King.”

In another picture where a police Gypsy is seen surrounded by armed policemen, Tony writes, “Motivation right here! Traffic and this is how police and gunmen clear traffic when my dad is on the road! #power #king #guns.”

The third photograph shows the DIG stepping out of a building with his son, surrounded by policemen. A man behind the DIG is holding an umbrella. The caption reads: “Dad and I. #Security, #Guns and #Umbrella even when there is no sun or rain.”

Tony, who is in his 20s, posted the fourth photograph showing him playing golf and a policeman is seen holding a flag stick for him. Here the caption reads, “Golf with Dad before next (flight).”

The pictures, which are also being circulated on Facebook and WhatsApp, have received angry reactions. “Let’s throw up on these nauseating pictures. Utterly disgusting,” reads a comment on Facebook. “I for a second thought it is Saddam Hussain,” writes another Facebook user.

A postgraduate in Bio Sciences, Beig joined Kashmir Police as a Deputy Superintendent of Police. He was later inducted into IPS. He has bagged several medals for “meritorious and distinguished” services.
