New Delhi: Exotic locations, celebrity performances and high profile invitees are just some of the highlights of what we call a ‘big fat Indian wedding’. Each billionaire spends more money than the other so that their marriage is the most talked about. These expensive weddings are also a way of showing social status and power. 

A-list guests, accommodated in seven star hotels, treated to most exotic world cuisines, utterly amazing venues, marvellous designer outfits, heavy jewellery, and immense media coverage; it defines the marriages of the B-town.

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri: SRK’s marriage with Gauri was a consequence of their dramatic love story. Gauri’s parents did not agree for the marriage at first and her mother even threatened to commit suicide! But a persistent Shahrukh convinced Gauri’s relatives one-by-one and this led to their ever-lasting, loyal marriage!

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor: This was the most awaited and extravagant wedding seen in B-Town. It was completely a gala event organised in a royal style at Saif’s residence followed by two of the biggest receptions held in Delhi and Mumbai.

Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai: This was one lavish ceremony that was meant to go in the history of B-town celeb weddings. Not all the details about Abhi-Ash wedding were disclosed, but as per the reports, the cost for the incredible, larger-than-life event was incredible.

The sizzling on-screen couple in Guru, tied the knot soon after the movie in real life. Dad Amitabh went to Siddhivinayak temple to offer the first invitation to Lord Ganesha! After which, the wedding was held.  Their reception feast had the chefs from the Taj Hotel, to serve a scrumptious combination of Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisines was another money-guzzling arrangement.

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra: Shilpa Shetty’s traditional wedding with Raj was a royal affair. Just like it used to be in the bygone days! The royal wedding took place in Khandala and Shilpa’s outfit was designed by Tarun Tahiliani. Their wedding cake at the reception in Mumbai was of 9 tiers and weighed 80 kgs!

Karishma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapur: It was a typical Kapoor Khandan marriage, held at her grandfather’s place, R K Cottage. Though the marriage seemed to be a low profile, it features among the fat weddings in B-Town.

Ajay Devgn and Kajol: ‘Pyaar to Hona hi Tha’ lived up to its name and made the protagonists, Ajay Devgn and Kajol, fall in love. It was an intimate affair and was held at Ajay’s place in Juhu.

Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan: The couple tied knot at a luxury spa in Bangalore, The Golden Palms. The pool inside the spa was turned into an island and had a bridge that extended from one edge to the other side. The Hindu boy was seen getting married to a Muslim girl in a Christian style making it bigger events of B Town.

Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza: The cute couple pulled out all the stops to have a gala wedding and make their big day an affair to remember. The cash that the lovebirds Genelia and Riteish Deshmukh dropped on their nuptials were off-limit. Their wedding on February 3, 2012, was held in a grand and high-class Maharashtrian style. After this, the couple went on to formalise their wedding with Catholic rituals in a church. It was a grand five-day affair; and the actual wedding was held in the Taj Lands End hotel, Mumbai.

Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva: The couple got married in a splendid style in 2010, at the lavish Alva farmhouse, near Hebbal Lake in Bangalore. Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva, daughter of former Indian politician Jeevraj Alva had a royal theme to their big day.

One of the grandest and classiest Bollywood weddings saw the couple appearing as prince and princess. Everyone was heard gibbering about the Karnataka and Punjabi style wedding, ostentatious food lawns with palm trees, prodigious catering arrangements, and how gorgeous the couple looked in their designer dresses.

Imran Khan and Avantika Malik: Imran married his long-time girlfriend Avantika at Aamir Khan’s cottage in Bombay. The wedding turned into a fairy tale affair as almost all the stars were present in the event.
