Army jawans vandalise police station in Nashik six detained

Date:

Nashik: A group of army jawans on Wednesday allegedly vandalised a police station in Nashik. They attacked several policemen, injuring three of them, while protesting the arrest of an army officer, police said.

At least six army jawans were detained in this connection, Upnagar Police Station inspector Namrata Desai said.

An army officer, from School of Artillery at Devlali Camp near Nashik, had allegedly parked his vehicle near the Upnagar Police Station on Tuesday night, which led to an altercation between him and police.

Later, an FIR was registered at the police station against the officer who was subsequently arrested. But, the matter was resolved and the officer was released, Desai said.

However, around 50-60 jawans in civilian clothes on Wednesday came to the police station at around 2 pm. They ransacked the furniture there and damaged some police vehicles parked outside the police station, she said.

The police officer also alleged the protesters locked her in her room and also beat up some policemen in which three constables sustained injuries and were later admitted to Nashik Civil hospital, Desai said.

City Police Commissioner Kulwant Kumar Sarangal and other personnel rushed to the spot. A panchanama of the incident was being conducted, she said.
