Sales up by 14% for Maruti Suzuki

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India, country’s largest car maker on Monday announced 13.9% increase in total sales at 116,606 units in January 2015 as against 1,02,416 units in the same period last year.

The company said its domestic sales increased by 9.3% during the month to 1,05,559 units as against 96,569 units in January 2014. Sales of mini segment cars, including Alto and WagonR, declined by 7.3% to 35,750 units as compared to 38,565 units in the year-ago month, MSI said in a statement.

The company said sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz and Dzire rose by 7.5% to 45,881 units in January this year as against 42,669 units last year.

MSI said sales of its compact sedan Dzire Tour rose by 33% during the month under review at 1,378 units as against 1,036 units in January 2014.The sales of company’s mid-sized sedan Ciaz, which was launched in October 2014, stood at 6,005 units.

With the rising demand, Japan’s Suzuki group also has plans to set up three plants in Gujarat’s Hansalpur, which will exclusively supply to Maruti Suzuki India Limited. Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for Suzuki’s Gujarat vehicle manufacturing plant.

According to Suzuki, the ‘state-of-the-art’ facility will be set up in line with PM Narendra Modi-led NDA government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. Suzuki Group will set up three plants with a total annual capacity of 750,000 vehicles. The first plant is scheduled to start production in mid-2017. It is being set up at an investment of about Rs 3,000 crore, and will have an annual capacity of 250,000 units.

The vehicles manufactured at these facilities will be supplied exclusively to Maruti Suzuki and support its objective of reaching annual sales of two million units in the medium term.
