Your Summer Holiday Reading List

For those who love to read but can never find the right book. Newsmobile has come up with a must read list for your summer holidays.

For children below the age of 8
1) Geronimo Stilton by Elizabetta Dami-
 The book series are about a talking mouse called Geronimo who is a best selling author, journalist and editor for a fictional paper called the ‘Rodents Gazzette.’ As a reader, you follow Geronimo on many adventures that he leads during his life.

2) Five on a Treasure Island by Enid Blyton-
Julian, Anne an Dick spend their holidays at Kirrin Bay to visit their cousin, Georgina. These four along with their dog Timmy are drawn into an exciting adventure when they discover an old shipwreck off Kirrin Island which leads to an old treasure.

3) Horrid Henry by Francesca Simon and Tony Ross-
Henry is a naughty selfish boy who is a prankster and despises authority and following rules. Horrid Henry has a knack for getting into a trouble and creating problems. The books revolve around how Henry attempts to solve these problems.

4) Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osbourne-
Two siblings Jack and Annie discover a mysterious tree house which is filled with books. The tree house is no ordinary tree house, it takes the siblings on various adventures through time, history , magic and mystery.

5) Charlottes Web by E.B White –
The book tells the story of a pig names Wilbur and his unlikely friendship with a spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur in danger of getting slaughtered , Charlotte writes messages in her
Web praising the pig so that the farmer can let him live.

For children of ages 9-12
1)  The Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling-
Harry Potter an orphaned boy who live with his aunt gets dragged into the world of magic after finding out that he is a wizard. After being enrolled in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry , he leads a life full of adventure , danger and magic to defeat the wizard who murdered his parents and save the world.

2)The  Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan –
Percy Jackson a boy who always finds himself in trouble and can never stay in a school for more than a year discovers that he is a half blood meaning half human and half God . He joins a camp for people like him and after discovering that he is the son of Poseidon the Greek god he imparts on many adventures to save his friends , family and even the world.

3) Diary of Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney-
This book is about an ordinary boy Greg Heffley who constantly finds himself in trouble and his struggles of Middle school.

4) Matilda by Roald Dahl –
Matilda is a very smart girl for her age who is often I’ll treated by her father and dislikes her family. Matilda finds out that she has special powers and can move objects with her mind and uses this power to defeat her schools evil headmistress , Miss Agatha Trunchbull with the help of her teacher Miss Jennifer Honey.

5) The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein –
Bilbo Baggins a selfless Hobbit  gets dragged into an adventure by the Dwarves and Gandalf to recover the lost land and treasure of the dwarves which had been taken by Smaug the dragon.

For Teenagers-
1)Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams –
The story follows the adventures of a British man Arthur Dent and his best friend (a part time Hitchiker of the Galaxy, stranded on Earth) across the universe. It is written in a zany topsy turvy way that asks all the big questions in a comical understated way holding the interest of the reader.

2)The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins –
The book is set in a dystopian future in “Panem” consisting of 12 districts and a wealthy capital. Katniss Everdeen a girl from district 12 along with Peeta Mellark get chosen to compete in the annual Hunger Games along with 22 other contestants, two from each district to fight in an arena to death until one is left as the victor.

3) The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky –
The book is in the form of letters written by an introverted, wallflower teenager Charlie to an anonymous stranger. The book follows Charlie through his freshman year of school and speaks about the important issue of sexual abuse.

4) The Fault In Our Stars by John Green-
Hazel grace Lancaster a 16 year old girl with thyroid cancer meets 17 year old Augustus Waters when persuaded by her parents to attend a support group in “the literal heart of Jesus.” Both of them go on a journey of love, romance , adventure , death and acceptance and discover themselves and each other.

5) The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares-
The story involves four friends who find a pair of pants which fits all of them perfectly. During the summer they go on different holidays and are separated but they rotate the pair of pants between them by mailing them to each other. The book talks about the experiences and adventures of the four girls during their summer filled with romance, fun and learning.
