Losing Top 14 and European Cup finalists Clermont on Monday announced the signing of ex-All Black winger Hosea Gear on a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old, capped 14 times by New Zealand, joins the French club from Super 15 outfit the Waikato Chiefs.

Gear has some experience in France, having played one season, 2013-14, for Clermont’s rivals Toulouse.

Clermont said their recruitment drive for next season was now over, having already signed wingers David Strettle and Adrien Plante, flanker Camille Gerondeau, lock Flip Van der Merwe and full-back Scott Spedding, while centre Waisake Naholo was still to sign his deal.
