74 kg drugs seized at Mumbai airport

Mumbai: In one of the biggest drug seizure at Mumbai airport, the Customs department’s Air Intelligence Unit on Wednesday seized 74 kgs of a contraband, suspected to be methaqualone, from a Tanzanian national. 

“We have arrested Chambo Fatma Basil under NDPS Act who was carrying 74 kgs of the contraband worth about Rs 7.4 crores,” Additional Commissioner of Customs Milind Lanjewar said. 

Basil was departing to Dar es Salaam via Qatar Airways when she was apprehended. “She was intercepted on the basis of specific intelligence and checking of her bags lead to the recovery of white crystalline powder suspected to be methaqualone,” Lanjewar said. 

Further investigation was on into the matter he added.
