Goa CM wants CBI helping hand in bribery case

Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said he will seek a CBI inquiry into the allegations that the U.S. firm Louis Berger bribed officials for a water developmental project in the state.

“The matter being of serious nature and since US courts have passed the orders local police probably will not be in a position to give justice to the job, I’m of opinion, CBI should handle the case,” said Parsekar. “As of now I have suggested my police department to collect the information, I’m expecting their report in a day or two. I will be taking a decision after receiving the preliminary report,” he added.

The New Jersey-based firm was charged with paying around $1 million in bribes to win major projects in Goa and Guwahati.
