New Delhi: Congress leader and former Assam Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday declared he will be joining that Bharatiya Janata Party shortly.
The declaration came ahead of next year’s assembly polls.
“Today, I along with the BJP state president, met National president of BJP Amit Shah. We have discussed some political situation as well as the prevailing flood situation and some long term problems of Assam. We have expressed our willingness to walk under a strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It has been decided in due course of time, we will join BJP,” Sarma said.
He insisted that in the coming two-three days he would be joining the BJP.
Last month, Sarma had resigned from Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s cabinet, alleging that the latter had no concrete policy to strengthen the party in Assam.
