At a point in time when we are all busy talking about how unfair it is for actresses to get paid less than their male counterparts, it certainly comes as a surprise that Madhuri Dixit took more than Salman Khan working for ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’
It’s the time when payment of male stars is being widely discussed, and coupled with the fact that male actors are comparatively paid more than female actors, it’s becoming a raging debate.
In fact, actors like Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut are the ones who are trying their best to fight for gender equality and for that they are more focusing on women centric films, which are making them one of the highest paid female actors of Bollywood.
But do you know there was a time when ‘Dhak Dhak girl’ was paid more than ‘Bhaijaan’?
Confused? Allow me to clear your doubt.
Well, yes the ultimate beauty of Bollywood, Madhuri Dixit Nene was paid more than Salman Khan for ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’, back in 1994.
Well, the confirmation came from none other than Anupam Kher. It happened recently when Anupam was running a gender equality campaign on Twitter when a woman tweeted telling him that, “The actress are paid less as compared to the actors. Firstly, Gender Equality should start from here. What do you think.”
To this, Anupam replied in the humblest manner, showing a nod towards her point but to get the facts right, he shared, “I agree in certain cases it is true. But Madhuri was paid more than Salman in HAHK.”
Although, those were the initial years of Salman’s career, so doesn’t came as a big surprise but the most interesting thing which came out was the amount which Madhuri charged for this film. Do you know Madhuri reportedly charged close to Rs. 3 crore at that time, the amount which stars like Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Chopra are charging today? Isn’t this amazing?
