Mirza-Hingis storm into US Open women’s doubles final

The Indo-Swiss pair made it to the finals beating 11th seeded Sara Errani and Flavia Pennetta 6-4, 6-1.

New York: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza remained on course for her second successive women’s doubles Grand Slam title after cruising into the US Open final with her Swiss partner Martina Hingis at Flushing Meadows.

The top seeded Indo-Swiss pair claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win over 11th seeded Sara Errani and Flavia Pennetta in a contest that lasted one hour and 17 minutes.

Sania and Martina, who had lifted the women’s doubles title at Wimbledon in July, will next face the winner of the semi-final clash between the fourth seeded pair of Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova and German-American pair of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Coco Vandeweghe.
