New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Thursday registered a case against former law minister Somnath Bharti, after he was accused of domestic violence and mental torture by his wife Lipika Mitra.
Reacting on it, Bharti said,”I have no information about this.”
The case has been registered against Bharti under Sections 307, 323 and 498A of the Indian Penal Code.
Lipika had accused Bharti, MLA from Malviya Nagar, of prolonged domestic violence and had approached the Delhi Commission for Women with her complaint.
The DCW had served notices to Bharti after which they had recommended that police case be registered against him.
In her complaint, Lipika had said that she was suffering from extreme physical, mental and oral harassment from Bharti since their marriage in 2010. “Me and my children are subject to harassment and torture – mental, physical and oral – by my husband Somnath Bharti… There is a persistent threat from my husband and his supporters,” her complaint had said.
Lipika Bharti has been married to Somnath Bharti since 2010, but has been living separately from him since 2012 along with the couple’s two children in a rented accommodation in Dwarka.
Bharti lives with his mother and brother in the Malviya Nagar area of the city.
