South Africa beat Scotland to boost World Cup hopes

South Africa beat Scotland 34-16 on Saturday to go top of World Cup Pool B and maintain their fightback after the stunning defeat by Japan.

Tries by Schalk Burger, JP Pietersen and Bryan Habana secured the crucial win in front of more than 50,000 people at Newcastle.

South Africa, stunned by their 34-32 defeat by Japan, overtake Scotland to take control of the race for first place in the group and an easier quarter final.
