Shashank Manohar unanimously elected as BCCI President

Date:

In a special general meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) scheduled in Mumbai on Sunday, Shashank Manohar was unanimously elected as the BCCI President.

“BCCI is a brand in itself, this brand hs been created because of love of fans and cricket loving population of this country,” Shashank Manohar said.

“In last few days the confidence of cricket loving fans has shaken due to certain unpleasant things which have happened. But leaving them aside, it’s now duty of all board members to build reputation of this board,” he added.

“I propose to take things forward with all members of the board.”

Manhohar said he will continue the good work which was being done by Jagmohan Dalmiya, who had thought of certain reforms. He also said that the Board will frame regulations with regard to conflict of interest of administrators, players and it will be done within a month’s time.

“Board would also appoint an ombudsman or an ethics officer who would be independent of this board & look into complaints. Board would lay down norms, will take forward measures to prevent corruption in this game, Board would take programs for educating players,” Manohar said.

“Give me 2 months time; in 2 months, all the things about which I’ve spoken will be implemented in full force,” Manohar added.

The post of President was left vacant after the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya in September.

Speaking on the occasion BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said that under Shashank Manohar’s able leadership, cricket will grow with every passing day.

“I’m sure under Mr. Shashank Manohar’s able leadership, cricket will grow with every passing day.”

According to reports, all the six units of East Zone unanimously proposed Manohar’s candidature for the President’s post. A BCCI by-election needs only one proposer from the zone which is electing the President and Manohar got the nod from all the six associations.

Manohar was the lone nominee at the end of Saturday’s 7 pm deadline.
