Sanjiv Kapoor steps down as SpiceJet’s COO; set to join Vistara

Date:

A day after Sanjiv Kapoor stepped down as chief operating officer at Spice-Jet on Thursday, he has been appointed as the Chief strategy and commercial officer.

Kapoor resigned from Spice Jet after 2 years, bringing to an end a seesaw two-year tenure marked by the low-cost airline’s string of financial losses, near closure, changed ownership and eventual return to profitability.
He will be assuming the new role in TATA SIA Airlines in February 2016.

Kapoor will be succeeding Giam Ming Toh, chief commercial officer, Vistara. Giam Ming will return to Singapore Airlines on completion of his deputation with Vistara.

Kapoor has over 19 years of experience in the airline industry, having worked with airlines in Asia, Europe, and the US in leadership and advisory positions. A graduate from Dartmouth College, US and with a MBA from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Kapoor joined SpiceJet in 2013 as COO.

His previous employers include Northwest Airlines, Bain and Company, Temasek Holdings (Singapore), and BCG (the Boston Consulting Group).
