This is Chetan Bhagat who has dished out several bestselling novels. But then, is he only known for his scribblings? Not really. He is as well known for his other avatars as he is for his works of art.
Chetan Bhagat has always has his moments of fame thanks to the statements he makes and trollers who troll him with great vehemence. He never spares anyone, which is perhaps no one spares him either.
So, he wanted to know what historians do. He tweeted:
What do historians do? I am genuinely curious. This happened. Then this happened. Then this. Ok work done for the day.
There was this one time when he played all innocent, tweeting:
In Slumdog Millionaire, a chaiwala won the top prize. The world loved the story. Remember that.
This was a jibe at Narendra Modi. Soon, he got trolled and rightfully so. He tried to make a comeback by saying that he never knew the mere mention of a movie would get so much thrashing, but then, dear Mr Bhagat, we, the people are smarter than you think we are.
Then, as the rupee kept sliding against the Dollar, he tweeted this wonderful piece of philosophical pearl.
‘The rupee is asking, is there no punishment for my rapists’
Got trolled again. To which, Chetan decided to make a comeback by saying that people have misinterpreted the word rape and they wouldn’t miss the opportunity of attacking someone. Why would someone leave that opportunity, Mr Bhagat?
Chetan Bhagat was also embroiled in a controversy when he stated that Khan and film-makers –producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Director Rajkumar Hirani– “uncivilised people”, saying, “They are making a fool of themselves.” Aamir Khan lashed out at the writer saying he shouldn’t be hungry for cheap publicity, after which Bhagat retreated and even went on to apologise.
Chetan Bhagat also came into the limelight thanks to the pretty full blown twitter war he had with Twinkle Khanna. Commenting on his stint as a judge on the dance reality show Nach Baliye, Twinkle responded to someone’s comment that she need not change her name to Chetali Bhagat, saying
I do!He gets to judge NachBaliye and i get to judge if that gross thing on my floor is dog puke or poop
Chetan: well, i’d say u have the bigger challenge girl..btw, how do u tell the difference between the two anyway?
Twinkle: it’s a short life-if lucky enough 2 get opportunities to do diverse things then one should @chetan_bhagat write a bestseller abt it too 🙂
