In the United States, with roughly 46 million travelling home for the holidays, this week is one of the busiest times around the year to travel.
This is the highest number of travellers in the last eight years. There is some good news in the offing for those travelling, as fuel prices are expected to be the lowest in the Wednesday-Sunday five-day period ever since 2008.
Last year, the American fuel price average was $2.80, about 70 cents higher than the current national average. Indiana’s average recently has been even lower, staying about $1.80 to $1.90 compared to the previous week.
About 42 million of those travelling prefer driving, which is a 0.7 increase from last year.
Coming in the wake of cheaper plane tickets, air travel is also expected to see a slight increase over last. With so many people travelling together, traffic hassles are of course a cause for worry. Earlier, Google had released data saying that the best saying that the best to travel for Thanksgiving is on the day of the festival itself, and not a day earlier.
