Cattle, litter at APJ Abdul Kalam’s grave, No sign of memorial yet

Date:

Five months ago, an entire nation mourned the sudden demise of former President APJ Abdul Kalam. Now, his burial site at Pei Karumbu in Rameswaram stays neglected as the plans for building a memorial is yet to get to see the light of the day.

Cats and dogs are seen defecating near the 1.5 acre-site with visitors sneaking through barricades and taking photographs near the grave. Aerospace and defence journalist Anantha Krishnan has started a Facebook campaign called “Justice4GuruKalam” seeking appropriate memorial for the people’s President.

Bharat Ratna awardee Dr. Kalam passed away on July 27, 2015. He was the 11th President of India. Before becoming the President, Dr. Kalam had spent four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the DRDO and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
