Cong targets PM, ministers on saving in LGP subsidy

New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) Congress today latched on to a CAGreport to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and severalUnion ministers, accusing them of "blatantly lying" on theissue of saving in LPG subsidy. Party spokesman Jairam Ramesh told reporters that the CAGreport submitted last week has showed that the saving in LPGsubsidy due to the government’s PAHAL scheme was a mere Rs1,764 crore. This was at variance with the claims of the Prime Ministeras also Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Petroleum MinisterDharmendra Pradhan and Chief Economic Advisor ArvindSubramanian, he said. He claimed that the Prime Minister, in his independenceday address last year, had said that the saving was to thetune of Rs 15,000 crore while Jaitley, Pradhan and Subramanianhad said it was in the range of Rs 11,000 crore to Rs 15,000crore. "This showed how the government has lied blatantly. It isbut just one example of the Modi government’s constant streamof falsehoods and misrepresentations," Ramesh alleged. PTI SPGSC
