Around 300 foreign liquor bottles seized in Bihar

Munger/Nawada (Bihar), Aug 17 (PTI) Around 300 bottles offoreign liquor were today seized from two districts of Biharwhere a total prohibition is in place and five people,including two women, were arrested. Acting on a tip off that a huge consignment of foreignliquor was being smuggled into Bihar from Jharkhand, policeincreased vigilance at the inter-state border and found 214bottles in a single car at Nauaghat Mor in Munger district. District Superintendent of Police Ashish Bharti saidpolice arrested Rohit Singh, who runs an upscale hotel inRanchi, and seized 11 ATM cards from him. He was later sent to jail, the SP said, adding, his twoaccomplices managed to give police a slip. Four persons, including two women, were arrested byexcise officials for possessing foreign and country liquorwhile checking a bus at an integrated checkpost at Rajauli inNawada district. Excise Department Superintendent Prem Prakash said 83bottles of foreign liquor, including a bottle of champagnehave been recovered from the two women. The bottles werepacked in nine bags and kept in the bus which was on way toBiharsharif from Kolkata. Prem Prakash said the women were identified as residentsof Biharsharif, the headquarter town Nalanda district. One bottle of foreign liquor was seized from anotherperson and and one and half litres of country-made liquor wasseized from another. Both of them were arrested, he said. The first was identified as a resident of Sheikhpuradistrict and the other of Simdega district of Jharkhand, PremPrakash added. PTI COR AR KKAAR
