Parliamentarians from BRICS nations brainstorm over women

issues Jaipur, Aug 20 (PTI) Women parliamentarians from BRICSnations today brainstormed on their role in making theirgovernments achieve sustainable development goals and issuespertaining to women. Taking part in the discussion, BJP MP from RajasthanSantosh Ahlawat said without the active participation of womenin politics, the sustainable development goals cannot beachieved. She appreciated the programmes and schemes of theRajasthan government for women empowerment and financialinclusion. Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan emphasised on empoweringwomen through education and improving their safety. Citing the example of Nobel prize winner Malala Yousufzaiof Pakistan, Jaya said women should move forward despitehurdles they face. The participants unanimously agreed upon that women shouldbe provided safety and education and laid emphasis onincreasing their role in politics, economic empowerment andgender equality, a statement issued here said. The parliamentarians were of the opinion that their rolemay be different on the issue of development but it is more orless same on women related issues, it said. Women parliamentarians from China, Brazil, Russia andSouth Africa also addressed the session, held as part of thetwo-day meeting of women parliamentarians’ of BRICS nations.PTI SDA AQS ZMNAQS
