Jammu, Aug 22 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief MinisterMehbooba Mufti today inaugurated the biggest Sewage TreatmentPlant (STP) of the state here built at a cost of Rs 30.82crore which will cater to a population of 2.80 lakh. The plant with a treatment capacity of 30 MLD has beenconstructed by the Jammu and Kashmir Economic ReconstructionAgency (ERA) at Bhagwati Nagar area here. The STP has been designed to cater to a population of 2.80lakh people in Jammu city with a capacity of 31,000 sewerconnections, an official spokesman said. It will drain out 30 million litre of sewerage per day andwill help general sanitation and environment improvement of alarge area of Jammu west. Work on the project was started by ERA in June, 2010 andhas been completed within the stipulated timeframe, thespokesman said. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that thelong cherished demand of the people of Jammu city regardingtreatment of sewage has been fulfilled with the commissioningof the STP. She said the STP has been designed to manage disposal ofsewerage in a scientific manner. Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh said the stategovernment is committed to development of Srinagar and Jammucities and adequate resources are available for the purposeunder various centrally sponsored schemes and in state sector. The Chief Minister also laid foundation of 32 (two BHK)residential flats to be constructed by the Estates Departmentfor the Move Employees at Sarwal, Jammu. The additional residential accommodation is beingconstructed at a cost of Rs 7 crore with each flat having asuper area of 800 sft. The Chief Minister was informed that additional 64 (twoBHK) residential flats are being constructed at a cost of Rs14 crore at Ahata Amar Singh in Jammu city. The Chief Minister was informed that the EstatesDepartment is also in the process of purchasing 32 (three BHK)and 100 (two BHK) flats being constructed by Jammu DevelopmentAuthority (JDA) at Muthi.
