Bribery case against ex-ED Jt director: 3 arrested by CBI

Mumbai, Aug 23 (PTI) CBI today arrested three persons inconnection with a 2015 case of alleged bribery against formerjoint director of Enforcement Directorate of Ahmedabad J PSingh, who was probing the IPL betting racket. Sonu Jalan, J K Aurora and Jaiyesh Thakkar were arrestedin the case, CBI said, adding while Jalan and Thakkar wereproduced in the court today Aurora will be produced tomorrowas he was arrested from Delhi. "Searches conducted at the premises of the accused inMumbai, Ahmedabad and Delhi led to recovery of severalincriminating material and cash worth over crore of rupees,"CBI said in a release. In 2015, CBI had registered case of criminal conspiracyunder IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act against the 2000batch IRS officer and several others. The case was registered after ED wrote a letter to CBIseeking investigation against Singh, who was then JointDirector of ED in Ahmedabad and other officers. It was allegedthat Singh indulged in extortion from those accused of moneylaundering in IPL betting racket. The ED’s Ahmedabad unit was probing two important cases -Rs 2,600 crore IPL betting scandal and Rs 5,000 crore moneylaundering case against alleged hawala operator Afroz Fatta inwhich the suspects allegedly sought favours. It is alleged that Singh and two other ED officers wouldthreaten the accused persons and suspects and extort money.PTI SP SKLZMN
