Five held for thrashing, looting Surat youth in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 23 (PTI) Five persons were arrested forallegedly thrashing and looting a Surat-based youth atsuburban Mahim station here, railway police said today. The incident took place yesterday when the victim ArvindPandey (19) was resting on platform number one at Mahimstation. At that time, an unidentified person snatched his bagand tried to run away, a police official said. Pandey then chased and got hold of the man near theplatform. Suddenly, four other associates of the accused cameand thrashed the victim, he said. As per the official, one of the accused even attackedPandey with a sharp-edged weapon, leaving him injured afterwhich all the five accused fled the spot. The victim immediately approached the railway police andlodged a complaint. Railway police then formed a team to probe the case.Officials scanned the CCTV footage at the Mahim station andidentified the accused. Within couple of hours, all theaccused were apprehended, he added. The accused were identified as Ramjan Sheikh, NamdeoKasbey, Rahul Naidu, David Korna and Ramesh Malepang, railwaypolice said, adding investigations are underway.
