JNU rape case: Political game continues ahead of student polls

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) Political agenda settingcontinued today over the rape of a PhD scholar in JNU ahead ofthe student union polls in the university. While left-backed All India Students Association (AISA)has expelled the accused, Anmol Ratan, from the party,Congress affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI)and BJP’s Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad are trying to cashin on the incident by staging protests against it. A 28-year-old JNU student had in a police complaintalleged that her fellow PhD scholar Ratan raped her in ahostel room on the university campus after offering asedative-laced drink. JNU Students’ Union, which has members from AISA, AISFand ABVP, today staged a protest outside Vasant Kunj policestation demanding immediate arrest of Ratan, who today movedan anticipatory bail plea before a city court. ABVP and NSUI also staged separate protests on thevarsity campus to highlight the issue of gender insecurity andthe "poor" safety of women students. PTI GJS GVS ZMNRCJ
