Kannada actor-politician Ramya faces sedition charges, refuse to apologise

Date:

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar’s comment about Pakistan being ‘hell’ has found disparaging attacks from an unexpected quarter. While the national leaders of Congress find themselves in a state of quandary as to whether to support the fresh anti-Pakistan rhetoric from the NDA government, actor-turned-Congress-politician and former Karnataka MP Ramya has decided to jump into the debate headlong and she still stand by her statement and she was quoted saying ;

“The people of Pakistan are very good and lovable. They treated me very well during the summit,” said Ramya, fresh from her trip to the western neighbour as part of the Youth SAARC summit delegation.

“Whatever we believe about Pakistan or whatever we are writing on Pakistan is dubious. People like Manohar Parikkar say that visiting Pakistan is like going to hell. But I did not experience any such thing. The people of Pakistan are also like us. They treated us well. In the summit, we discussed issues of welfare and peace in South Asia. The main focus of summit was to address the border issue,” Ramya added.

According to the report, responding to her statement actor and BJP MLC Jaggesh too was quoted saying that ;

“Ramya should get the Nobel prize for her glowing praise of Pakistan, tongue firmly in cheek. She must be a vastly experienced person in such matters. She must have suddenly grown as a national and international level leader. She must be aiming for the Noble prize. But the reality is different. No one in the country should praise the enemy nation. I am talking as an Indian. If they (Pakistan) extend their hand of friendship, we should welcome it. If they continue to conspire against India, we should treat them as enemies,” Jaggesh said.

Another BJP member with a Sandalwood past, Malavika Avinash, also criticised Ramya’s newfound love for Pakistan. BJP workers in Mandya staged a protest against Ramya and demanded an apology for her statement. But the actor refuses to apologise and said she will stand by her statement.
