Later, Mukherjee attended the 125th anniversary ofBangiya Sahitya Parishad wherein he lauded the contributionsmade by the Parishad vis a vis the defining periods in social,cultural, intellectual and literary history of Bengal. He said that since its foundation in 1893, the BengalAcademy of Literature and then the Bangiya Sahitya Parishadhave been doing exemplary work. "The main objective of Bangiya Sahitya Parishad has notonly been the study and development of Bengali language andliterature but also the pursuit of Bengal’s cultural,historical, archaeological, and sociological heritage," hesaid. Famous Bangla personalities such as Romesh Chandra Duty,Rabindranath Tagore, Navinchandra Sen, Devendra Nath Mukherjiwere associated with the Parishad. The Parishad owns a library that has more than two lakhbooks and periodicals including books from the earliest periodof printing in Bengal.It also has more than 10,000 manuscriptsin Bengali, Odiya, Assamese, Sanskrit, Tibetan and Persian.PTI ZHDV
