Modi govt creating distances: Azad

New Delhi, Aug 24 (PTI) Senior Congress leader GhulamNabi Azad today accused the Modi government of "creatingdistances" among people in the country where attempts werebeing made to spread hatred of the kind witnessed duringPartition. The Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha also warnedthe country was facing "threat from inside". "When partition happened, the country was burning withhatred…attempts are being made again to spread the samehatred today. Though the situation is not like partition, butsome people are trying and conspiring to spread the samehatred," Azad said addressing a function organised tofelicitate Muslim freedom fighters here. "The after-effects of partition were there for some time,but gradually everything got better. But today’s government isagain trying to create distances (among people) by givingstatements, and (through its) actions. This is not (good) forthe country…". "Today we have threat from inside," he said. Therefore, all secular forces should work together tocounter such elements, he said, adding "..you cannot counterthem with weapons but by creating an atmosphere that India isone and it will remain united, and we all are like brothers."
