Sellers fined for selling substandard eatables in Ludhniana

Ludhiana, Aug 24 (PTI) Eight food sellers here have beenfined a total of Rs 49 lakh by the District Administration forviolating the Food Safety and Standard Act and sellingsubstandard food items. The fine was imposed by Additional Deputy Commissioner(General)-cum-Adjudicating Officer Rishi Pal Singh. While passing the magisterial order, Singh informedthat a few days ago, Ravinderpal Garg, Manoj Kumar Khosla andYogesh Goyal from the office of Designated Officer cumDistrict Health Officer, Ludhiana, had recorded samples ofroasted chana, Bikaneri Namkeen, paneer, curd, slice bottles,confectionary, rose-e-ruffin drink and namkeen, khoya andnatural kiwi juice from various shops in the city. He informed that when these samples were checked as perthe process in the laboratory, all these products were foundto be below the prescibed standards. Keeping in mind the safety of residents and publicinterest, these persons have been fined Rs 49 lakh. This fine has been imposed under section 51 of theAct.
