On Thursday, the Government of India in a press release said that it has seized the reported leak of documents related to the ongoing Indian Scorpene submarine programme. According to Government, “the documents that have been posted on the website by an Australian news agency have been examined and do not pose any security compromise as the vital parameters have been blacked out”.
On another hand, According to Australia’s The Australian newspaper the leaked data details the secret stealth capabilities of six new Indian submarines. It also includes frequencies of intelligence gathering, the levels of noise at various speeds, their diving depths, range, and endurance all the vital classified information.
The press release also said that “Indian Navy has taken up the matter with Director General of Armament of the French Government expressing concern over this incident and has requested the French Government to investigate this incident with urgency and share their findings with the Indian side”. Commenting over the issue eminent defence analyst, Commodore Uday Bhaskar (Retd), told PTI “on the face of it, these documents are basic operating manual. You buy any goods from the market, it will come with an operating manual”.
