IIT-KGP to teach science behind happiness

Kolkata, Aug 29 (PTI) IIT Kharagpur will soon introduce aninnovative new course that will involve researching thescience behind happiness with an aim to develop "a happyeco-system". The ‘Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science ofHappiness’ is the brainchild of IIT-Kgp alumnus Satinder SinghRekhi and will start by offering a micro-credit course forstudents from this autumn semester. "The upcoming centre is a unique initiative that wouldconduct research and teach practical ideas based on thescience of happiness and positive psychology and help developan eco-system of happy and successful KGPians," said Rekhi. In addition to providing financial support to the centre,Rekhi would also be part of programme management as itshonorary chairman. "The new centre is going to be a landmark achievement andwill help our students to embrace happiness and have bettercontrol over their emotions," saud IIT-Kgp Director, P PChakrabarti. "The impact would go beyond the student community ofthe institute and trigger happiness and positivity in thesociety through these students," he added. The courses will involve students researching andexploring happiness, positive psychology and related conceptsin themselves and in others. Certificate courses will also be offered to outsiders. The centre will organise its first international workshopon the science of happiness next month in Kolkata andKharagpur in which corporate leaders, working professionalsand renowned academicians from across the globe are expectedto take part.
