John Kerry to visit India to boost bilateral ties

US Secretary of state, John Kerry is arriving in India on Monday night. Kerry’s three-day visit to India is expected to boost India-US ties.

After arriving, Kerry on Tuesday will visit to Sisganj Sahib Gurudwara, Gaurishankar Mandir, followed by visit to Jama Masjid in Old Delhi.

On Tuesday afternoon, Kerry will meet, External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, to discuss India-US ties and external policies.

On the third day of his visit, Kerry will go to the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT). Later in the day he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed by his visit to Gandhi Smriti.

India-US ties have become the most important aspect of relationship between two countries. Apart from political and defence relations, these ties have given positive results in other sectors also.

In 2015, the bilateral trade reached $109 billion, which was $37 billion in 2005. The US investment in India reached more than $28 billion and India has invested more than $11 billion in the US. The US affiliates of Indian companies employ more than 52,000 workers in the US.

During the dialogue, India is expected to make a strong push for US’ support to get a membership to the elite Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). It would also focus on business ties, defence cooperation and clean energy initiatives.

The two sides will also explore means for greater US participation in the Make in India flagship in the defence sector. They will review progress in the establishment of the Working Groups on Aircraft Carrier Technology and Jet Engine.
