Bollywood films don’t not explore grey emotions: Nawazuddin

Date:

New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) Nawazuddin Siddiqui has aced thecommon man roles in Bollywood but he feels that maximum storiesdon’t focus on grey emotions and are only comedy or melodrama. Best known for his roles in "Kahaani", "Gangs ofWasseypur", "Talaash", Siddiqui still feels that the Hindicinema does not explore ‘nau ras’ (nine emotions) that exist in’Natyaashashtra’. "People go and watch a film either for laughter or expectit to be an emotional. In our films, we only work on two orthree emotions but there are other five-six emotions in theNatyashastra but our industry works very less on it. These arethe most difficult emotions to present on the big screen,"Siddiqui told PTI. Quoting Hollywood veteran Robert De Niro, the "Manjhi"star said, "Like Robert De Niro has said, ‘a person publiclyhides his emotions.’ But in films, we deliberately act. In mycase, I prefer to do such roles where I don’t have to show myemotions much." In "Freaky Ali", Siddiqui, who has mostly dealt withintense roles, will be doing a full-fledged comedic role forthe first time and the actor says he prefers it to beeffortless. "We have this trend of comedy here that actors make weirdfaces on the big screen, they use punch lines and put in somuch effort to make audience laugh. According to me, it shouldnot be like that… That effort should not be there," he said. Siddiqui, 42, also believes that larger-than-life rolesare easy to portray rather than playing common parts. "I never repeated my roles. The most difficult role is toplay a common man in the film. Playing larger-than-life rolesare quite easy because that character has a certain image. Butgrey shade are a lot more difficult." "Freaky Ali", also starring Arbaaz Khan, Amy Jackson andJas Arora, will hit the theatres on September 9. PTI SSNBK
