HPU students stage protest, demand revaluation of answer

sheets Shimla, Aug 30 (PTI) The students of Himachal PradeshUniversity (HPU), which is facing stiff opposition fromstudent bodies after implementation of RUSA (RashtriyaUchhatar Shiksha Abhiyan), today alleged that 98 per centfailure in the first semester of undergraduate colleges was"shocking and unprecedented". The students held a demonstration against the Universityand demanded revaluation of answer sheets claiming the numberof failures can never be so high. Taking note of unrest among the students, Vice ChancellorProf A D N Bajpai today said the students would not be allowedto suffer and necessary steps would be taken to address theirgrievances. He said a high-level committee under the chairmanship ofDean, College Development Council, Prof S S Chauhan has beenset up to look into the matter. Other members of the committee are Dr J S Negi, COE, DrRaja Ram, Principal Government College Kotshera, Dr Ram LalSharma, General Secretary, HPGCTA and Dr Mukesh Kumar, SystemAnalyst of the Computer cell. The Vice Chancellor said that the committee has beenentrusted with the job of proper function of software, propertransmission of actual marks given by the college teachers andproper tabulation with the main results besides randomchecking of evaluated answer sheets. He appealed to the student community to remain calm andnot raise hue and cry and wait for the report of the factfinding committee. PTI PCLIKA
