Maha CM flags off walkathon to raise awareness about organ

donation Mumbai, Aug 30 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister DevendraFadnavis flagged off the state government’s ‘Maha OrganDonation Mission awareness MahaRally’ here today. "We all pledged for organ donation today and I appealeveryone to join this noble cause and together, let’s savelives!" Fadnavis said. "Organ donation gives us the opportunity to serve thesociety even after death and we can give life to many," hesaid. "There was a great response for the organ donationinitiative," Fadnavis tweeted. "Students, doctors, socialorganisations and citizens joined us for spreading awareness,"he added. The event was part of the state government’s strong pushto promote awareness on cadaver donation. The walk started from the Murli Deora Chawk at NarimanPoint. Families of deceased patients who had donated theirorgans were felicitated. The awareness drive included several transplant hospitalsand doctors attached with organ-transplantation procedures. According to Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre, thestate plans aggressive awareness campaigns on organ donation.Maharashtra is now next to Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the countof maximum number of organ transplants in India.
