Nepali youth sentenced for possessing charas

Mandi (HP), Aug 30 (PTI) A special court today sentenced aNepali youth to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposeda fine of Rs one lakh for possessing over a kg of charas. Special Judge Krishan Kumar also ordered Naresh Bahadur, aresident of Anchal tehsil, to undergo an additional two yearsof imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine. Bahadur was nabbed on February 8 last year by a policeteam from Balh Mandi police station while they were patrollingat night. Bahadur tried to escape the spot seeing the police, but hewas arrested by the police and one kg and 600 grams of charaswas seized from him. A case was registered under section 20 of Narcotic Drugsand Psychotropic Substances Act against the accused and achargesheet was filed against him. The court observed that since the quantity of contrabandwas of commercial quantity so the convict has to be dealt  strictly. As per the order of court the convict was todaytransferred to Central Jail Nahan from Sub Jail Mandi where hewas earlier lodged. PTI CORR RCB ZMNRCB
