Over Rs 8,210 cr of properties stolen in 2015; half from Maha

New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) Astonishing it may sound buttaking into account all the big and small thefts, propertiesworth over Rs 8,210 crore were stolen in the country during2015 of which only Rs 1,350 crore could be recovered. The national capital reported highest theft of Rs 719crore but Delhi Police could recover only Rs 125 crore whichis meagre 17.5 per cent, the data shows. About half of the total properties stolen in 2015 werereported from Maharashtra alone where over Rs 4,533 crore wentto theives and only five per cent of it could be recovered bythe police. Across the country, thefts showed an increase of 9.3 percent in terms of worth of property stolen in comparison to2014 when property of over Rs 7,500 crore was stolen. The alertness of Tamil Nadu Police saw 65.4 per cent oftotal 131 crore stolen properties recovered by it which is thehighest recovery rate in the country followed by 56.2 per centreported by Punjab and 52 per cent in Rajasthan. These details are part of 63rd edition of NCRB datareported in ‘Crime in India – 2015’ released by Home MinisterRajnath Singh here today. The National Crime Records Bureau publishes the report onannual basis, since the first edition published for the year1953, an official statement said. It said the report contains information on policerecorded criminal cases pertaining to the calendar year 2015in which data has been collected from 36 States/UTs and 53Mega Cities having population of more than 10 lakh. The report shows an increase of 5.3 per cent under crimesagainst children (from 89,423 in 2014 to 94,172 cases in 2015)in which Kidnapping and abduction constituted 44.5 per cent oftotal cases of crimes against children in 2015. "An increase of 25.8 per cent under crimes against HumanTrafficking (6,877 cases in 2015 compared to 5,466 cases in2014)," the report says. The report also says there is a decrease of 4.7 per centunder crimes against Scheduled Tribes which has gone down from11,451 in 2014 to 10,914 cases in 2015. Besides a decrease of 4.4 per cent has also been reportedunder crimes against Scheduled castes from 47,064 in 2014 to45,003 cases in 2015. The crime against women have also reported a meagredecrease of 3.1 per cent i.e from 3.37 lakh cases in 2014 to3.27 lakh cases in 2015. The report says over 28.69 lakh cases were investigatedduring the year. It says chargesheet rate was 98.1 per cent and convictionrate was 92.4 per cent under Special and Local Laws (SLL)cases. "A total of 73,26,099 offence cases [29.49 lakh IndianPenal Code (IPC) cases and 43.76 lakh SLL cases] were reportedin 2015, an increase of 1.3 per cent over 2014," it said. PTIABS IKA ZMNIKA
