HRD Ministry may relax norms for opening new KVs

New Delhi, Sep 2 (PTI) With land scarcity becoming anissue, the Union HRD ministry is considering relaxing thenorms for opening new Kendriya Vidyalaya schools. According to sources, as per the present norms forstarting a new Kendriya Vidyalaya school, 10 acres of land isneeded in rural areas while 8 acre land is required if theschool is to come up in an urban area. For Metros, 4 acres of land is required. "There are sometimes issues related to availability ofthe land. So it is being considered that the present norms maybe relaxed," a source said. Officials said that the issue has been discussed at thehighest level in the HRD ministry including minister PrakashJavadekar and a decision in this regard may be taken in thecoming days. There are over a thousand Kendriya Vidyalayas in thecountry which are run by the HRD ministry. Often these schoolsare opened up by the ministry at requests of the stategovernments. PTI ADSRG
