Sacked fmr minister suspended from AAP, surrenders before cops

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) On a day of dramatic developments,sacked Delhi Minister Sandeep Kumar today surrendered beforepolice hours after a woman, who purportedly figured in an"objectionable" CD, filed a rape complaint against him, evenas he was suspended from AAP. In her complaint, the woman alleged that Kumar had offeredher a spiked drink in his office in outer Delhi’s Sultanpuriwhere she had gone to seek his help in procuring a rationcard. The woman has alleged that after she fell unconscious,he raped her. Earlier in the day, AAP’s Political Affairs Committeesuspended the 36-year-old first-time MLA from the party andrefered the matter to its disciplinary committee. Kumar was removed from the council of ministers on August31 by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after the CD purportedlyshowing him in compromising position with a woman surfaced. The MLA from Sultanpur Majra surrendered before theinvestigators at the office of DCP (Outer) in Pitampura wherehis statement was recorded, senior police officials said. In her complaint filed at Sultanpuri police station, thewoman claimed the CD was made after Kumar became minister andthat she did not know about it. Recalling the day the alleged incident took place, thewoman claimed she was asked to wait at the minister’s officeand then offered a cold drink which was spiked. After she lostconsciousness, she was raped, the woman claimed. It is not immediately known what the woman told the policeabout when the alleged incident took place. Her statement is being recorded, Sanjay Singh, jointcommissioner of police (Northern range) said. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that if theallegations were found to be true, then Kumar should be given"exemplary punishment". "If woman’s allegations are correct, this is v serious.Strongest exemplary punishment shud be given to Sandeep,"Kejriwal who is in Rome to attend Mother Teresa’s canonisationtweeted.
