New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) Delhi University’s electioncommittee has issued notices to all those who had filednominations for the varsity’s student union polls over use ofprinted posters for campaigning. As per Lyngdoh committee recommendations, the candidatesin student union polls can only campaign using handmadeposters and not printed ones. However, walls full of suchposters in DU’s North Campus are a common sight every year. "We have issued notices to all students who filed theirnominations including those who are contesting the polls forviolating the code of conduct, NGT order and Lyngdoh committeerecommendation by using printed material for campaigning,"said D S Rawat, Chief Election Commissioner for DUSU polls. "They have been given time of 24 hours to reply followingwhich the decision will be taken on their candidature," headded. DUSU is the representative body of the students from mostcolleges and faculties. Apart from DUSU, which is an umbrellacouncil, each college also has its own students’ union forwhich they hold separate elections. The elections for the student body are scheduled forSeptember 9 and the students’ wings of various politicalparties have intensified their campaign. A total of 91 candidates are in the fray for the fourcrucial posts of DUSU. There are 27 candidates for the post ofpresident, 19 for vice-president, 24 for secretary and 21 forthe post of joint secretary. 22 nominations were rejected during scrutiny by theelection committee. Last year, the DUSU polls were swept by BJP-affiliatedAkhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) trouncing Congress’National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and AAP’s ChhatraYuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) to bag all four positions –president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary.
