Vigilance arrests Malabar Cements MD

Palakkad (Kerala), Sep 5 (PTI) Managing Director ofstate-run Malabar Cements here was arrested today by theVigilance department on charges of alleged corruption andirregularities in the company. He was arrested after summoning to Vigilance office forquestioning in connection with the alleged irregularities inallotting dealership, import of clinker and procurement of rawmaterials, Vigilance sources said. Vigilance had earlier registered FIR against Padmakumar infour cases related to corruption in the company. Padmakumar was arrested, as he was responsible for all thedealings as Managing Director, the sources said. He would be produced in Vigilance Court in Thrissur andseek custody of him. Sources said that this was for the first time thatVigilance was seeking custodial interrogation of an accused incorruption cases. The case was initiated by the Vigilance on a complaintfiled by a former employee of the company and an outfit thatworked for the protection of public sector undertaking. Vigilance had conducted a quick verification of thecomplaint and submitted a report in the court. PTI JRK LGK RCSMJ
