Woman, 2 daughters attempt suicide over harassment by police

Rajkot, Sep 6 (PTI) A woman and her two teenage daughtersattempted suicide by consuming pesticide today on the premisesof district court here for their alleged "harassment" by apoliceman. "After they consumed pesticide, the women identified asNasrin Gulzar (33) and her two daughters, Najnin (16) andSirin (14) were rushed to Rajkot Civil Hospital, where theircondition is stated to be normal," said Pradhyuman Nagarpolice station inspector R Y Raval. Nasrin, a resident of Dhoraji town in the district,alleged that a policeman from Rajkot had been harassing herfamily and that her husband was booked under false charges. "She said the policeman would drop in at her residenceanytime and harass her and her daughters," Raval said, addingthat he would record the statement of the women once theirmedical treatment is completed.
