Elaborate security arrangements have been made tomaintain law and order in the state. Extra forces have been deployed with two companies eachfrom Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, one from Maharashtra and 10companies of central forces, police said. This is the second bandh that the state is bracing for ina week’s time and the fourth this year. Officials said with the bandh on the emotive Cauveryissue being supported by several organisations, unions andpolitical parties, it was likely to be "total". Opposition parties of BJP and JD(S) have also lentsupport to the bandh. The Cauvery row erupted after the Supreme Court on Mondaydirected Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs to Tamil Nadu forthe next 10 days to address the plight of farmers there. Subsequently, on September 6, Karnataka released theCauvery water amid snowballing protests by farmers. The Karnataka government had also said it would approachthe apex court seeking modification of its order because ofthe difficulties in implementing it, given that the livestorage in four reservoirs in the Cauvery basin now was46.7 TMC ft against their capacity of 104 TMC ft.
