Rahul’s UP yatra to stop for two days due to Eid

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) Rahul Gandhi will take a two-dayhalt on September 12 and 13 during his month-long mahayatra inpoll-bound Uttar Pradesh in view of Eid and would recommencehis march from September 14. Gandhi is undertaking a "kisan mahayatra" to highlightthe plight of farmers in Uttar Pradesh. On the fourth day ofthe yatra that was kicked off from Deoria in eastern UP onSeptember 6, the Congress Vice President reached Faizabadtoday. "My yatra from Deoria to Delhi today in Faizabad andAmbedkar Nagar. In view of Eid, we will halt on September 12and 13. It will commence from September 14 thereafter," hetweeted. He took out a road show in Faizabad and also got a warmwelcome from children of Faizabad Public School at Gandhi Parkthis morning before the beginning of the road show. He alsogarlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhar Tilakand Acharya Narendra Dev in Faizabad. He put his pictures of the road show and other events,but not of his visit to Ayodhya, on social networking siteTwitter. Gandhi this morning visited Ayodhya, where he offeredprayers at the Hanuman Garhi Temple, the first ever visited bya member of the Nehru-Gandhi family since the demolition ofthe disputed structure in 1992. Before embarking on the fourth day of his mahayatra, the46-year-old Congress Vice President also met Mahant Gyan Dasat the temple. No member of the Congress’ first family has visitedAyodhya since the demolition of the Babri Masjid 24 years ago,in December 1992. Much significance is being attached in political circlesto Rahul’s visit to Hanuman Garhi, which is about a kilometreaway from the Ram Temple at the disputed Ramjanmbhoomi-BabriMasjid site. Rahul, however, stayed away from the site of ‘shilanyas’,the foundation stone that had been laid there in 1989 for theconstruction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. PTI SKCRT
