Mamata declines comment on Mitra’s release

Kolkata, Sept 10 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister MamataBanerjee today declined comment on the release of TrinamoolCongress heavyweight Madan Mitra who was arrested inconnection with the Saradha scam about two years ago. Banerjee, who returned this morning from her eight-dayvisit to the Vatican and Germany, refused to take questions onthe release of her former cabinet colleague who was yesterdaygranted bail by the Alipore court. However, the chief minister’s co-traveller Kolkata MayorSovan Chatterjee said Mitra’s arrest was "politicallymotivated".
