New Delhi, Sep 10 (PTI) CPI(M) today wrote to Union HomeMinister Rajnath Singh, seeking his intervention in Mewat’sdouble murder and alleged gangrape of two girls from a poorfamily, contending Haryana government has been indifferent tothe "gruesome crime perpetrated against a landless family". In his letter, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechuryalso referred to media reports claiming members of a cowvigilante group were involved in the "barbaric" act andpressed Singh for "most urgent" action in the matter. "Please treat it as most urgent and take necessary actionas the Haryana government and its administration appear to beindifferent and insensitive in the matter. I am aware that lawand order is a state subject in the Constitution. "But we have, in the past, treated issues concerningreligious minorities, women, the scheduled castes and thescheduled tribes as subjects of national concern. On thisbasis, I am requesting your urgent intervention," he said inthe letter. Yechury’s letter was based on a report by a team ofCPI(M) leaders who visited Dingerheri village in the Mewatdistrict on August 30. A couple was murdered and two girls from the familyallegedly gang raped after the accused had barged into theirhouse in the wee hours on August 25. On August 28, Haryana Police had arrested four youths inconnection with the incident. The accused had also ransacked the house, an isolatedstructure located in the middle of farmland, and fled withsome valuables including cash. After committing the crime, the accused had tied theinjured with ropes and escaped from the spot. Some residentsliving nearby found the injured after which the police wasinformed. PTI ENM RCJ RGRCJ
